Earl Warren is one of the most important chief justices in history. He led a Supreme Court that brought sweeping changes to American law and society. His decisions delighted liberals but surprised and angered many in his own Republican Party. He earned a law degree from the Unioversity of California at Berkeley. Earl became the Alameda County district attorney, state attorney general, and finally governor. Warren lost a election as being Thomas E. Dewey's vice president. Earl overturned many old laws and rulings and established new legal precedents. He became the 14th Chief Justice of the United States. He started the Warren Commision that that investigated the assassination of Presidetn Kennedy.
